What I Saw at the Grocery

I went to the grocery last night to pick up a few staples. It was late and there were only a handful of other customers in the entire store. It made the store look different - I notice for the first time the true abundance that we enjoy. Aisle after aisle of every type of food imaginable. If it ever goes away most of us will be eating the same 6-12 items for years and years. It was a sobering experience.

On another note the end caps made me chuckle. One had Ramen Noodles. The next had canned and dried beans. The next had expensive Salad Dressings that were being discontinued. If that's not a sign of recession i don't know what is. I had a dream last night that i went to the grocery and the first aisle was all ramen, the next was all dried beans, the next was bottled water, the next was garden seed. My subconscious is still overly optimistic.

I often wonder what is going on. The rest of the country is whining about rising food costs, but here we have had half-off sales every week for months. And not for stuff nobody needs, I mean half-off for milk, butter, meat, frozen foods. This week milk is $1.57 a gallon at one store. Last week it was $1.88 at another store. Boneless chicken breasts, $1.67 a pound two weeks ago. My freezer runneth over!

Food is reasonable at the present time. PM's could be cheaper but I expect them to rise in price when massive inflation kicks in.
